The
Bayonne Point district, located on the easternmost point
of The Peninsula, provides breathtaking views of lower
Manhattan, New York Harbor,
the Statue of Liberty, and the Verrazano
Narrows
Bridge. The district is planned as a vibrant mixed-use
destination which will include high-rise residential,
office, and hotel buildings as well as entertainment
uses to accompany the existing cruise port.
In
December 2003, the BLRA entered into an agreement with
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to build a cruise port
within a portion of the Bayonne Point District.
Cape Liberty Cruise Port
officially opened on May 14, 2004 with the maiden
sailing of the Voyager of the Seas and marked
the first time a passenger ship vessel had sailed from
New Jersey in almost 40 years. In the spring of 2006,
the BLRA entered into a 35-year, $140 million agreement
with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
The northeast corner of the Bayonne Point
district is occupied by Harbor
View Park, a 2-acre
waterfront park, which opened in September 2006. The
Park offers panoramic views of the New York harbor and
is home to Zurab Tsereteli’s monument, “To the Struggle
Against World Terrorism” dedicated to victims of the
September 11 attacks and 1993
World Trade
Center attack.
The Bayonne Point district also includes
a large drydock which is currently leased to
