While
the South side and eastern point of The Peninsula are
attractive locations for housing, office and retail
development, the North side adjacent to the deep water
Port Jersey Channel has a strong industrial character.
In
November 2007, the BLRA voted unanimously to sell to
Ports America for $90 million a portion of the Maritime
District to build a state-of-the-art roll-on roll-off
auto marine terminal operation. The deal also calls for
Ports America to invest $15.2 million in capital
improvements to the site. In April 2009, the BLRA
completed the sale and transferred deed to Ports
America.
A
portion of the Maritime district is also home to the
U.S. Coast Guard and Harbor Patrol. |
